A Day of Celebration for some Camp Lejeune Families

Today is the day many Camp Lejeune families have been eagerly awaiting and anticipating for the past 7 months. Today Dad, Mom or Husband returns from Iraq.

It is a tradition of the Camp Lejuene military community for the families of returning Marines make to make "Welcome home" signs and hang them on the fence along Highway 24 entering Jacksonville.

These signs are original and personal. It is a heart warming sight to ride along the highway and see the signs awaiting the arrival of these families' loved ones.

welcome home marines

Along this section of the highway, the median is lined with Bradford Pear trees that were planted in honor of those Marines who died in Lebanon in 1986. There is one tree for each Marine who lost his life and is known as The Guardian of Peace Memorial. The trees were donated by Jacksonville citizens to memorialize those Marines. It is a gorgeous sight in the Spring when the trees bloom and a needed reminder of those who lost their lives.

The Marine arrive at the Morehead City port and from there they load into military vehicles and make their way down Freedom Way (Highway 24) to Jacksonville.

Vietnam Veterans Give What They Did Not Get
Many of you served in the military during the Vietnam war or are related to someone who did. I only know what I have read, heard or was taught in school (which was very little). However, I do know it was a very unpopular war and that the soldiers did not get the recognition and support they deserved which left many bitter and scarred.

However, there are always some people who know how to take the wrong and make a right and that is just what Michael Engi and fellow Vietnam veterans are doing.

These Vietnam veterans drop whatever they are doing night or day to welcome home the returning troops at Fort Dix. It is their mission to make sure these military men and women receive a hearty welcome home unlike the lonely return home they experienced. Solders return home

This is a heart warming story about how Michael Engi organized these efforts and how welcoming home the Soldiers help heal him and his fellow Vietnam veterans. Mr. Engi says America's newest veterans are overcome with gratitude and emotion as they are welcomed home. (photo courtesty of Flickr-rsktphotos)

I just had to share this with you today, whether we agree or disagree with the war in Iraq, these men and women deserve our gratitude and respect.

I work with many military families relocating to Camp Lejeune and buying a home in Hubert NC and I consider it an honor to assist these families in locating a home in Onslow County NC.

Homes in Hubert, NC
Everyone seems to have an opinion about the real estate market and if now is a good time to buy or sell. I can only tell you my experience and what I see happening here in my area of Onslow County N C.
Property values of homes in Hubert NC have increased dramatically over the last 3 years, especially the water front property in Kingsbridge II on Queens Creek. Several new homes have gone up here and sold in the $425,000 and up price range. Building lots on Queens Creek have also seen a very large increase in value with sales prices in the $175,000 and up range.
Mortgage rates are still very low in comparison to what they were just a few years ago. It has not been that long since 8% was considered a very good rate. Will they go up or down? That's any one's guess and every buyer and seller has to make the decision whether to make their move now or wait.
My personal opinion is that now is an excellent time to buy a home in Hubert NC or any other area of Onslow County. The inventory is good, sellers are ready to sell and mortgage rates are favorable.
I also believe it is a great time to buy a building lot whether you want to build now (which is a good time while building supply materials prices are down) or you want to just sit on the property for awhile. It is my opinion that Hubert NC real estate prices are not going to lose more value. The proximity to water and Camp Lejeune Marine base make this an excellent location for investment.
People have different opinions and thought and of course, ultimately the decision is yours but whatever you do, do not allow the media hype to dictate your decision concerning buying or selling real estate in Onslow County, NC. Remember the news media objective is to sell the news and bad news sells.
If I can assist you in any way with real estate in Hubert NC or others areas of Onslow County, please feel free to Contact me 910 459 9189.

Good morning Onslow County home owners, those looking to buy a home in Hubert N C, those who are seeking real estate in Swansboro NC and those relocating to Jacksonville NC. Thank you for stopping in.
Today, I'm off on a tangent--I am sharing a recipe that you will probably think cannot possible be good but I challenge you to give it a try--you'll be glad you did.

Banana Pudding with Oreos
I know all of you (those of you from the South for sure) have made banana pudding. A friend of mine has come up with a fun variation which may not sound good but I promise you, it is delicious. Oreos - pseudofiles

Here is what she does

In a large rectangular pyrex dish she layers

Vanilla wafers for the 1st layer

Next layer is sliced banans

The 3rd layer is whole Oreo cookies

The next is vanilla pudding (made from scratch or Jello pudding & pie filling mix)

Top with a meringue and broil until brown.

This is a totally new and different banana pudding. You can't believe how yummy this is.
