Onslow County North Carolina and the Dought

According to an article in the Jacksonville Daily News by Paul H. Marcotte, Onslow County North Carolina's drought is not as serious as our neighbors west of us.

One of the reason is that Onslow County and Camp Lejeune use well water while many counties and cities use surface water which is at the lowest level in many years.

No mandatory restrictions have been placed on Onslow County or Jacksonville residents. Officials have just asked that citizens use water wisely.

Governor Easley has asked all North Carolinians to conserve by restricting the use of water for washing cars, watering lawns and plants. According to the N C Department of Environment and Natural Resources 114 water systems in our state are under mandatory water conservation. While approximately 138 water system are under voluntary restriction.

The forecast for rain within in the next few days is more optimistic than it has been in a long time. We're hopeful.
