Christmas Shopping Thoughts
Did you partipate in Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping? I did not this year. No, I was not protesting or boycotting, just not motivated. Each year the holidays come faster and faster, some would say this is due to getting older. Perhaps. I'm just tired of all the "hype", constantly being bombarded by retailers trying to get me to buy things I do not need, really want and spend money I do not have. How many people are still paying for Christmas 2005? And now, it's time to add more debt to that ever growing credit card balance for all those unused, unappreciated "gifts". Do I sound like Scrooge? I really am not, I love buying things for family and friends but on my terms and in my time. I do not like the pressure put on all of us this time of year to "give". The most difficult gift to give is the most precious--"our time". Our children get so many toys all through the year. The ones they get at Christmas are soon forgotten and replaced by newer and better. Would it not be better to spend time with them? Take them to the zoo, the park, a movie or just sit and talk or play. They might not say it but that is what they want no matter what age they are. We all crave one on one attention--it says "you are important to me and I treasure your company". I'm going to try and give more time to my family and friends this year--share dreams, hopes, fears.
