Countdown to Thanksgiving
If you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner at your house, you need a plan and now is the time to get started.
1 week before
1. Plan your menu - write it down
2. Make a grocery list
3. Launder and press table linens
4. Polish silver you plan to use, wash dishes & glassware
5. Decide on centerpiece & order or locate materials needed
6. Clean house
Thanksgiving week
Monday - 1. Buy groceries 2. Determine which serving dishes to use for each dish,
(not a bad idea to write on small slip of paper & put in dish) Remember
serving utentils for each dish
Tuesday - 1. Start thawing turkey in refrigerator 2. Set table if possible
3. Tidy up entrance- inside & outside 4. If you plan to have a fire, get it
ready so all you have to do it strike a match
Wednesday - 1. Pick up or make center piece - put on table 2. Prepare all side dishes that can be made ahead - this is pretty much everything. Most all can be prepared and refrigerated until time for cooking. This includes stuff or dressing. 3. Buy ice 4. Do housekeeping maintenance
5. Make dessert (Did you remember dessert dishes & forks?) 6. Chill white wine 6. Make sure the dishwasher is empty
Thursday A.M. - 1. Prepare turkey for baking 2. Finish up side dishes 3. Tidy up bathrooms, put out guest towels 3. Enlist helpers to get everything on the table while it's hot!
