Swansboro, The Friendly City by the Sea, is a wonderful little historic village and port located on the White Oak River. It offers a large variety of activities for visitors and residents.
Historical Sites - The area is rich in history and is member of the National Historic Places
Homes and shops have been restored to preserve the unique history of the area. A walk around town and a visit to the Bicentennial Park on the Waterway will reveal some of the history of the town and port.
Hammocks Beach State Park -An 890 acre island consist of 2 islands - Bear Island and Huggins Island, with a maritime forest and salt marsh. It is nationally recognized as a coastal wildlife nature preserve and is also a nature nesting area for the logger head sea turtle.
The park is one the most visited and popular tourist sites. Access to Bear Island is by private boat or ferry service operated by the park service year round.
Bear Island offers wonderful shelling, camping, fishing and from Memorial Day to Labor Day concessions and swimming on the East side. The water is pristine, the dunes undisturbed and the beaches are wide and uncrowded.
Fishing - Salt water and fresh water fishing is big here. Fishing charters take fishermen on a short ride to the fertile Atlantic Ocean fishing grounds. For those who prefer fresh water fishing, the White Oak River offers the opportunity to throw a line at many locations.
Boating & Marinas- Water, water everywhere, there are many public boat ramps and launches.
Waterskiing - The White Oak River provides an ideal setting for waterskiing, jetskiing and other water sports.
Scuba Diving -The Atlantic Ocean also known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic provides excellent diving sites.
Antiquing - There are many antique shops in the downtown area as well as outside of town. For more information

There are several golf courses in the area, most of which have scenic, water views and the greens mostly are Bermuda.
